When I spoke to Herb, he said that the roof is in even worse condition, floors have water on them and some areas of the roof a car could fall thru so we not sure that it will make it through the winter, last winter was mild so he was lucky, let's hope he gets a benefactor for a new roof soon. Join Tom and I for a historic adventure -- come and photograph awesome details, history, and HDR! We have been to the Silk Mill many times! See a few of our photographs from our trips to the Silk mill here
http://www.breaphotosgalleries.com/
We always have a small group -- so you can get those wide-angle shots without having tons of people in your scene! The Lonaconing Silk Mill (also called the Klotz Throwing Company) is located in Lonaconing, Maryland along the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad’s mainline. It is the last intact silk mill in the United States and was in operation from 1907-1957. Initially, silk was imported from Japan and China and the factory produced silk thread. During World War II that changed to rayon. The mill shut down operation in 1957 and has fallen into disrepair. The owner of the silk mill is trying to raise money to restore the mill and he allows photographers to enter the dilapidated building for a fee.
How experienced do you need to be? As long as you are willing to learn and experiment then this is a good photo op for you! Bring your camera manual (pdf on your phone/device or paper). Tom and I will also assist you with compositions. Tom loves setting up shots and then sharing them with our participants.
You may choose to shoot completely on your own (some photographers come with us mainly for the access to these fabulous historic places) and/or shoot with us and we can offer compositional advice, show you what we are shooting and thinking. Tom and I do shoot, as this is a photo tour, but we are always there for advice and ask questions, we love to share and teach and inspire.
Please note that all of our workshops require the participants sign a liability waiver. Download it here; then print, read and sign it and bring it with you, Thanks! http://tinyurl.com/cuchara-waiver16 Please note that some locations will have you sign their liability waiver at the site as well.

“Tom and Lisa’s photographic fine art is incredibly unique, and each piece has its own wow factor. Even to a trained photographer’s eye, many of their pieces do not even look like photographs; they appear to be surreal and even fantasy-like. Their art will draw you in and encourage you to draw your own conclusion or story. They have created their very own style using state-of-the-art techniques and are always willing to share their secrets with other photographers. If you get the chance to take one of their classes, I highly recommend it. They are wonderful teachers and mentors.” ——Patty Swanson, Certified Professional Photographer (CPP)

“Tom and Lisa are true artists who see the beauty in these places and things left behind. They are so generous and share their passion, knowledge, and knack for seeing this beauty with you in their workshops. They truly have made me a better photographer, and I can’t wait for our next adventure together. Who knows what is waiting for us in the next rusty and dusty location? You should definitely come along....”
—Raquel Gonzalez, Photographer, Workshop Attendee, AVP Financial Center Manager at Bank of America

Lisa and Tom have a superb knack for finding incredibly fascinating places to photograph. They are encouraging, patient and terribly creative people whose energy and passion make you never want to put your camera down." Jennifer Dooley, Workshop Participant, Avid Photographer for 20 years

Tom and Lisa are both creative and talented photographers who look to push the edge in their photography. As excellent, patient and devoted teachers, they use their beautiful images to help inspire others to open up their own path to making more visually interesting compositions and designs. They excel at finding beautiful color palettes and  utilizing good post processing techniques. The textures and details of their rusty explorations are a visual delight for photographers and non photographers alike. This book is both informative and inspirational, a valuable addition to your photo library. Bobbi Lane, Bobbi Lane Photography, www.bobbilane.com
