PacSafe

Be safe my friends. There have been three sets of camera thefts recently from people that I know.

Tom and I travel with a cheap travel blanket or a cheap black sheet from Walmart to put over our gear. We also make sure not to fiddle or put away gear at restaurants and when parking in streets/parking lots (we do this all at a different location ahead of time).

We also try to remember to use our PacSafe products.  You notice I said try, it is easy to get complacent and think that it will not happen to you or it will not happen here, so we travel with the Pacsafes with us but we do not always go the extra effort to use them. We bring them with us when we fly and when we drive. The PacSafe locks to the D ring in the back of the car.

This Pacsafe will hold my Think Tank camera bag http://amzn.to/2yqSp7m

and this kind can be fitted around larger camera bags and suitcases http://amzn.to/2yrlAHg

and a slashproof lockable duffle bag

When I spoke to Herb, he said that the roof is in even worse condition, floors have water on them and some areas of the roof a car could fall thru so we not sure that it will make it through the winter, last winter was mild so he was lucky, let's hope he gets a benefactor for a new roof soon. Join Tom and I for a historic adventure -- come and photograph awesome details, history, and HDR! We have been to the Silk Mill many times! See a few of our photographs from our trips to the Silk mill here
http://www.breaphotosgalleries.com/
We always have a small group -- so you can get those wide-angle shots without having tons of people in your scene! The Lonaconing Silk Mill (also called the Klotz Throwing Company) is located in Lonaconing, Maryland along the Cumberland and Pennsylvania Railroad’s mainline. It is the last intact silk mill in the United States and was in operation from 1907-1957. Initially, silk was imported from Japan and China and the factory produced silk thread. During World War II that changed to rayon. The mill shut down operation in 1957 and has fallen into disrepair. The owner of the silk mill is trying to raise money to restore the mill and he allows photographers to enter the dilapidated building for a fee.
How experienced do you need to be? As long as you are willing to learn and experiment then this is a good photo op for you! Bring your camera manual (pdf on your phone/device or paper). Tom and I will also assist you with compositions. Tom loves setting up shots and then sharing them with our participants.
You may choose to shoot completely on your own (some photographers come with us mainly for the access to these fabulous historic places) and/or shoot with us and we can offer compositional advice, show you what we are shooting and thinking. Tom and I do shoot, as this is a photo tour, but we are always there for advice and ask questions, we love to share and teach and inspire.
Please note that all of our workshops require the participants sign a liability waiver. Download it here; then print, read and sign it and bring it with you, Thanks! http://tinyurl.com/cuchara-waiver16 Please note that some locations will have you sign their liability waiver at the site as well.

Lisa and Tom Cuchara see the beauty in decay and abandonment. In this book, they take you on a guided journey of historic, grand, dramatic, and unique locations and provide tips to help you capture creative fine-art photographs of rusty, dusty subjects and locations. In this book, you’ll find a plethora of urban exploration images and discover the processes used to create each one. You’ll learn how to capture HDR images, create long-exposure photos, and paint with light. You’ll also learn how to approach challenging locations, deal with high contrast scenes, create stitched HDR panoramics, and produce light and shadow effects. The authors share the gear that was used, the camera settings, the story behind the scene, and how they pre-visualized their images and looked for light (or created it) in each location. This book will inspire you to visit new “old” places and to get to know them well enough to tell their story.
